Story of place

The story of place tells you what to optimize. A cold lakeside town and a hot arid metro do not get the same options — and they do not get the same math. This is the full library of stewardship interventions the place selects from: the raw material the Place Planner composes into a portfolio.

Start with the outcome

The pattern is the mechanism underneath. Every row links to real catalog entries and keeps its precedent badge visible.

Homes are warm before the facility gets praised.

Waste heat is useful only when the place can actually receive it.

The watershed sees net benefit, not a press release.

Water patterns count when they stay in the same basin and are visible to the community.

Permanent local careers outlast the construction spike.

The jobs claim becomes real through apprenticeships, local hire, and operations ladders.

Value lands in the town with covenants and teeth.

Host payments are only the floor; governed benefits and clawbacks make the promise hold.

Compute becomes civic infrastructure.

The proposal is honest: no operating DC precedent yet, but the civic uses are concrete.

How to read a badge

Every intervention claims only what it can prove

No black-box claims — this honesty system is the model's spine, and the planner's engine trusts a Proposal at roughly half the weight of an Operating project. The five badges:
Operating

Verified operating project(s), externally cited.

Pilot

Documented pilot or research deployment.

Proposal

Concept with adjacent precedent only — no operating instance.

Standard

Codified in an industry standard or certification.

Regulatory

Mandated somewhere (EnEfG, EED, VA HB153, GS-5).

Illustrative model. The Regen Data Center is an educational reference model. Figures shown are either externally cited or tagged as illustrative examples; interactive outputs are illustrative and not offers, financial advice, or guarantees. Operating, announced, and proposal precedents are labeled distinctly throughout. Nothing here recognizes, certifies, or constitutes a VLAS-verified asset.
